“Why are your prices so high?”
We get asked a lot about our pricing… because it’s high. Yes you heard it here first. OUR PRICES ARE HIGH! Why?
For one thing, roofs are usually more expensive than people expect in the first place and everything is more expensive these days, so there is some sticker shock.
Secondly, we’ve been successful for over 5 years not because we have the best prices, but because we have the heaviest shingles and relentless quality on install, so our prices are higher. To give it to you straight, we lose business when a customer wants to pay cash for their roof replacement. If you bid out to 3 different roofers for a cash job, we will not have the best price. But if you bid out to 3 roofers for an insurance job, we will have the same price or better pricing and the highest possible quality. We also will look for ways to save you money where most roofers will flat charge you the amount paid out by the provider. Sometimes things get paid for that are not important to you. We use those items to discount your deductible.
For example, maybe the adjuster pays for your copper finial but you don’t care to have it replaced because it looks fine and it serves no function on your roof. We’ll happily refund the $2,000 to you to help you balance out the cost of your deductible and reuse the original finial if you would like us to. We charge only for the work we do. We’ll sit down with you and highlight the line items you want to use and the line items you want to save.
To put it shortly, the Up Armor engine can do cash jobs but it runs better on insurance work.
Our goal is not to win on price, but to win on quality. Why would we want to give up the new construction guaranteed business and the cash jobs? After all, these are easier, right? They are easier, more automatic, and more frequent, but we target insurance jobs where the cost is forwarded to the insurance provider because this is the best option for the customer. That way the customer gets the best possible roof for the lowest possible amount of money. The highest quality doesn’t reflect any more cost to the customer if they choose to Up Armor their roof. It does however mean that we would lose money if we installed our high quality roof system at cheap competitor pricing on a cash job. We simply refuse to be associated with anything cheap. As a result, we enjoy our days off when it rains instead of stressing about phone calls from customers with leaks from low quality roofs.
In fact, if you know price is the deciding factor on which roofer you choose, I’d ask you not even ask for my bid. It costs us a pretty significant amount just to give an accurate bid and my price will almost definitely not be the lowest.
“Couldn’t you make more money by installing the same quality as competitors on your insurance jobs instead of more expensive options”
Yes we could. In fact, in many cases, our customers have busy lives and don’t fully appreciate our highest quality roof system. We have a standard of high quality whether it gets properly recognized or not. That prevents call backs and we believe fosters long term success more than making extra money today.
Insurance work is challenging. They constantly try to save money and cut us short. Rest assured though. This is Up Armor Roofing’s problem rather than yours and we have the tools to set providers straight when we need to. We give our customers the peace of mind that no matter what the provider tries to get away with, the customer will just be out their deductible (required by insurance law) worst case scenario and the customer will still get the highest quality possible. Needless to say we end up doing mostly insurance work. If you’d like to know specifics about our high quality, our owner (Lucas) would love to text with you and explain the details to you. We can’t give away our trade secrets publicly but we’d be glad to share specifics offline 🙂
That’s how we would want our own roofs to be paid for and that’s our way of doing unto others what we would have done unto us.
If you’re going to pay your deductible (Oklahoma law requires you to pay your deductible) for your new roof (can be a payment plan with us), would you rather have a premium best-in-class roof or a builder’s grade okay roof?
When bad weather lands on your roof, all you have to do is let us know and we’ll get you the best roof for the least amount of money.
