In my experience roofing, I’ve found that most people can benefit from a certain amount of education when it comes to Insurance Claims in regards to their home. Filing an insurance claim isn’t something most of us do very often or deal with very often so I’ve found that often there is a knowledge gap around the claims process and what you really need to know to file a successful claim with insurance and to make the best decision whether or not to file a claim with your provider. So what are the two most important things?
Well, let me first tell you that we’ve been providing these 2 things to our customers for a while now. Please don’t try to come up with a best guess on your own for these 2 items. Let us help you. It could be costly with your claim.
I’m also excited to let you know we are offering insurance advice now (which includes these 2 items) for $79.99 with no expectation of business. The $79.99 then gets taken out of your new roof when you let us replace your roof for you.
Okay, Okay fine here it is….
I’m talking about the Date of Loss and the Type of Claim. A claim cannot be filed without these items. Adjusters can use these items against you if you get them wrong. Not to say that they always do, but they can. I’ve seen it happen. You may have undeniable hail damage that the field adjuster 100% agrees with but if you misremembered the day the hail storm was at your house, the desk adjuster can deny your claim. Another example would be knowing what type of claim you need to file. Let’s pretend you sent a family member an email on the day of your hail storm so you can go back and track down the exact day. Great, now you’ve got to figure out if you just have hail damage or if you have other types of damage to claim as well from that storm. Did extreme winds cause damage? Did extreme winds even exist with that storm? That’s what we are here for.
Beyond those 2 things we will tell you the exact time the storm was at your house, how long it was there, the size of the hail, the speed of the wind, the speed of the wind gusts, the density of the hail storm, the severe weather alerts issued by the National Weather Service. I could go on. These are all helpful things when combatting an insurance provider who is looking for a reason to deny your claim.
On the other side of the coin, maybe you remember there have been storms and your neighbor had insurance replace their roof but you have no idea how long ago that was. We can go look and see that that happened to be 3 years, 2 months, a week, a day, and 3 minutes ago and the chances of your provider respecting that severe hail storm that far back are slim to none.
Knowledge is Power.
