There’s a good chance of baseball sized (or larger) hail this evening in Tulsa so it’s a good chance to talk about the aftermath and how to deal with potential damage on your roof.
First of all I want you to make sure you take good pictures of the hail on your property before it melts for proof against these providers that try to deny anything these days. Moving on…
There are guys out there that follow the hail storms around and try to replace roofs all over the country. We call them storm chasers. They will knock on your door 5 minutes after you get hit with hail and offer you a free inspection. I recommend you say “I have a roofer, actually. Thanks for the offer though.” Then choose your own roofer that you trust. Here are some considerations before accepting help from the door knockers:
- They aren’t from here. Do they know what local building codes are in Oklahoma? Building codes are different in every state.
- Do they know the crew that will do the job? Most crews are sub-contractors so storm chasers have to hire a brand new crew every time they get to a new storm.
- Are they licensed to work in Oklahoma?
- Does their insurance cover them working in Oklahoma?
- Do they know Oklahoma insurance laws or are they guessing about what they can offer you on your roof claim.
- “They recommend I file a claim”… Wouldn’t it be better if your roofer actually cared what the true cost of filing a claim was, instead of recommending a claim on every single property?
- They will likely act like it is urgent and you need to file right away to try to close more deals. You don’t. As long as you don’t have an immediate leak or something that will get worse fast, you have 12 months to file your claim, sometimes even longer. Discuss it over with a shingle master before you decide how to handle the potential claim.
- When your roof has some flashing that needs looked at on your new roof, or a potential material defect on your new roof, is your roofer going to be around to look at it for you or will they be chasing the next storm somewhere in Illinois?
- Is a door knocker going to climb on your roof and make the damage worse? We’ll look at the hail damage with a drone because we’re part-107 licensed through the FAA. You’ll get to see the photos we take or even live views of your roof for your own peace of mind if you so desire.
We do inspections. They are at no cost to the customer like most roofers offer. The difference is that we will talk it over with you and not try to force you into a decision. Our goal is to educate and put options in front of you and then let you decide what to do with your own home, rather than try to persuade you of what is best for us.
I refuse to door knock because I don’t want people knocking on my door at my own house (exception would be girl scout cookies. I will allow those solicitors). But I do want to make sure I’m making myself available to anybody who could benefit from our service. Of course you can call us, but the best way to schedule your inspection with us to decide if you want to file your claim or not is to fill out the form on our website: https://uaroof.com and lets us know the best day and time to stop by and take a look.
If the damage is bad enough and you are confident in the process, you can also file your own claim. If you let us know when the adjustment is, we’ll meet onsite with the adjuster and make sure you get treated fairly. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out directly to Lucas who sees our roofing projects through from before the claim is filed all the way to asking for a Google review after the customer is 100% satisfied with their brand new roof. You can reach him at 918-991-9295.
